Bluetooth issues

All wireless Magic devices are designed by Apple to work with Apple computers via Bluetooth using specific chipsets.

While Bluetooth is a universal standard, not every Magic device works (flawless) with every Bluetooth adapter and their Windows driver.

Update the Bluetooth adapter driver

Ensure your Bluetooth adapter driver is up to date. This could solves connection issues, especially with Windows 10 1903 May 19 update.

Disable Bluetooth adapter power saving

It can happen that Apples Magic Devices suddenly disconnect when connected to Bluetooth.

Click your mouse or trackpad or press a key on the Magic keyboard to reconnect.

Disabling Bluetooth power saving might help to reduce these dropouts.

Avoid wireless Interference from other devices

Other wireless devices might cause connection drop-outs or performance issues. These days our environment is full of wireless connections, Wifi, mobile phones, speakers, displays, ...

If you have connection dropouts or a lagging trackpad, follow these instructions.

Use default Windows Bluetooth adapter drivers

Do not install custom drivers for your Bluetooth adapter, try the Windows drivers first. Install custom drivers only if the Windows drivers do not work at all.

BlueSoleil Bluetooth adapter driver software is not compatible with the Magic Utilities.

Bluetooth first aid

If nothing works, consider a full reset of your Windows Bluetooth subsystem.

Follow our Bluetooth first aid guide here.

Use a different Bluetooth adapter

In case you can't pair your device or have constant ongoing Bluetooth issues try a different Bluetooth adapter.

Here are some Bluetooth adapters which should work. Scroll down a bit to see them.

Note: Windows can use only one Bluetooth adapter at the time. Disable/remove the existing Bluetooth adapter before installing a new one.
